How to become a school of excellence for scooting!

On the 2nd November 2016, Robert Fitzroy Academy became a winner at the annual TfL STARS awards ceremony. They picked up the only scooting award, which recognised them as a 'school of excellence for scooting'. Simultaneously, TfL, London praised the Academy for being among the best schools in the capital for promoting active travel. Well done Robert Fitzroy Academy for such a huge achievement! STARS – Sustainable Travel: Active Responsible Safe TfL’s STARS accreditation scheme inspires young Londoners to think differently about travel and its impact on their health, wellbeing and the environment. Each year STARS schools replace 13 million miles’ worth of car journeys with walking, cycling and scooting! It aims to improve pupils’ wellbeing as well as reducing congestion at the school gates and improving road safety and air quality. To read more about TfL STARS accreditation scheme click here. TfL STARS award Micro Scooters run a similar scheme. Scoot Safe has been developed especially for children to encourage and ensure scooting best practice. Micro Scooters has been involved in a Scoot Safe schemesince 2013. In this time we have taught more than 20,000 children how to scoot safely. Each lesson involves learning the basics of how to steer, how to brake and how to be courteous to other pavement users. The child often finish the class feeling more confident on their scooter, and will have a better understanding of how to control their speed and direction.
