Scoot Relief 2014

  • 5 min read
Take 8 strapping lads, 8 sturdy Micro scooters, 112 miles, 3 castles and lots of plasters and you have yourself Scoot Relief 2014! We are delighted to sponsor Luke and "the boys" on their 3rd scooting challenge in aid of Sport Relief. After travelling the entirety of the A2, from London to Dover, on our scooters last year and raising over £3,000 the boys are back for another scooting challenge. They will be attempting 'The 3 Castles' challenge. A 112.1 miles scoot from Elephant and Castle in London to Dover Castle and on to Rochester Castle in Kent in just over 48 hours. Easy peasy. You can sponsor the boys via their Just Giving page here We caught up with the boys in the pubtraining and asked them to introduce themselves.... Scoot Relief Name: Tom Coyd Age: 18 Which scooter are you riding: The Micro Flex scooter Why are you taking part in Scoot Relief Obviously it's amazing being able to help people all over the world who are most in need of it and the feeling you get from it is incredible. But it's also great fun setting off on a mission with my best mates and flogging ourselves for miles on end. It's an experience I'll never forget, it really changes you haha. Your favourite song to scoot to: Scooter - Jumping all over the World How much have you raised so far: We're still catching up with last Scoot Relief's total of £3000 which was unbelievable, we never thought we'd get that much. All our efforts are going into at least matching that and hopefully beating it this time around 3 best things about scooting: Sightseeing, the wind in my hair and the banter throughout the journey. 3 worse things about scooting: Cramp, bumpy pavements and falling off. Who from the Scoot Relief team is going to get injured first: Definitely Nick. He has a reckless scooting technique and is easily distracted. In 2010 on our first Scoot Relief he managed to disassemble his scooter within the first 10 miles; our support team had to make a pitstop at D & A Toys to get a replacement! (This was of course before we were blessed with the support of Micro Scooter in 2012). It feels wonderful to be part of something as big as Sport Relief and knowing our efforts are saving and helping lives both in the UK and abroad. Then there’s the joy that I get out of challenging myself and the fun that my mates and I have along the way is priceless, as are the memories. Your favourite song to scoot to: Police On My Back – The Clash How much have you raised so far: £5000 from previous Scoot Reliefs then so far roughly £3-400 for this year 3 best things about scooting: 1) Makes me feel like a kid again, 2) It’s a great laugh whether we’re riding for charity or just casually, 3) You can get some serious speed i.e. downhill which is an adrenaline rush 3 worse things about scooting: 1) Long distance scooting kills your hands, 2) Uphill is a struggle, 3) Scooters aren't designed for all the terrains we come across.
