In the run up to Christmas we have been asking you to share your Micro Moments. Those moments from the year that have been special or memorable. Miriam owner of the multi award winning blog @mimisbowl shares her very special Micro Moments with us...Micro Moments
Watching the relationship between my daughter and husband grow and blossom was incredibly special to me. I don’t often talk about my husband through my blog, as I write mostly about family food and what I cook. I had a wonderful bond with my own father growing up and as a parent I cherish the moments they share as daddy and daughter. She is incredibly fortunate to have a truly loving and endlessly kind, patient and funny dada to play with. He follows her around with a devoted interest: carrying her toys and answering her every babble and later the endless questions, as they then came thick and fast.
They say that maternal love is born, and paternal love is earned. And whilst generalisations are to be avoided this was perhaps the case for our family; or my husband and my daughter. In the first few months, after she was born, he would often default to me; thinking that perhaps I knew “better”. He didn’t realise is that I too, was “learning on the job”. We were both in a dark, dazed and sleep-deprived baby bubble, filled with immense love, relentless feeds and endless worry. Nothing really prepares you for life with a newborn baby.
On her second birthday, my husband bought our little girl a mini blue Micro Scooter, as a present: complete with a dinosaur helmet and a shiny silver bell. We would take the dog out for a morning walk together and they would diligently practise scootering ahead of me. It took time and perseverance; she didn’t find it immediately easy. If she gave up, he would carry the little scooter home over his arm, holding her hand. Her confidence grew and I soon I would watch him proudly jog alongside her as she scootered away. Through her micro scooter she discovered a sense of independence and in the process, I watched their bond grow. For me, those memories mark a special milestone for us all, as we found our feet as a family of three.
Today, our son has joined in the fun and as he has just started walking confidently, we are weighing up the moment when he will get his own little Micro Scooter. The chaos of two small children scootering around, with a dog in tow, and no doubt my husband and I jogging alongside… in all directions, is something I am actually looking forward to. A new memory to mark our journey as a family together and how far we have come.
