How our love poem competition put us in touch with Julia's House Hospice

  • 2 min read

Back in February, we ran a competition named #scooterlovepoems and spread some love out to charities via #scooteraid.

#ScooterLovePoems

The challenge was to submit a poem about an exciting scooting adventure. The winning prize was a Micro Scooter for the winner and one for a charity (nominated by the winner). We didn't expect to receive such fantastic entries and when it came to the crunch, we really struggled to find just one individual winner. Bowled over by three fantastic poems which stood out about the rest, we decided to send prizes to three winners and three fantastic and very worthy causes. It was through this competition that we met the wonderful people who work at Julia's House Hospice.

Julia's House Hospice

Julia's House provides practical and emotional support for families caring for children with life-limiting or life- threatening conditions. Its extremely dedicated care team support families at home, in the community and also in the charity’s purpose built hospices in Dorset and Wiltshire. The judges at Micro Scooters loved the poem that nominated Julia's House Hospice, which described mini scooter adventures. So we proudly contacted them to arrange the scooter delivery. Through #scooteraid we were able to gift them with a nearly new Mini Maxi Deluxe.

Micro adventures in the hospice

We spoke with Corporate Fundraiser Caroline Attreed who advised that the scooter was to be used within the hospice for the everyday use of the children who visit the centre. Here is Senior Carer Ashley from the charity insisting on a quick road test before presenting the scooter to the children. Here is the poem from Louise Ahrens who kindly nominated the charity to win.

Supporting charities through Scooter Aid

We are proud to be able to support charities through #scooteraid. It is a scheme that allows ex demo, donated and returned scooters to be sent out to charities across the UK. You can find out a bit more about Scooter Aid here. If you have a scooter that you would like to donate, here you can find out the steps to take in order to send your scooter back to us.
