The Ultimate Family Adventure

Meet the Colenso family.

Rachel (mum)

Jasmine (daughter, aged 4)

Rosemary (daughter, aged 6)

Jeremy (dad, aged undisclosed :-))

They are all completing an epic scooting challenge. Namely, scooting (as a family) the length of the River Thames.

The family started the first leg of their epic 187 mile scoot late last year and are scooting different stages of the River every weekend. That was until their scooters were stolen (three guesses who provided new scooters in order for the family to keep going?).

The scoot is in aid of the Red Cross International Disaster Fund (visit the family’s Virgin Money Giving page).

The family have already scooted the following routes:

Route 1:

Battersea Park (Eastern corner) along the river walkway to Battersea Park (Western corner).

Distance: 1 mile (2 return)

Points of interest: The Peace Pagoda; Battersea Zoo; The fountains and Rose Garden

Route 2:

Albert Bridge to Wandsworth Bridge

2 miles one way

See: barges on the river, different types of architecture the Fred Wells Garden (the latter offering free use of tennis courts and children’s play park)

Route 3

Putney Bridge to Hammersmith Bridge

Runnaway scooter just passed Hammersmith

The family thought this stretch of the journey was “full of urban walkways and upmarket apartments giving way to the beauty of the British countryside”.

Route 4

Sunbury Lock to Denborough Island

1.8 miles

No pics of this one as hurricane St Jude decided to visit on this day. Scooting through a hurricane – not recommended!

Route 5

Runnymede to Old Windsor

1.4 miles

And… they are still going.

Visit Rachel’s blog to see and read all about the next step of the scooting adventure.

We are so proud to be supporting Rachel and her family in all their efforts.

Are you and your family planning any scooting adventures of your own? Do let us know about them in the comments below.
