CORAM & SCOOTER AID: RAISING SMILES THROUGH SCOOTING

It was on a dull February morning when the charity Coram got in touch with us. They had heard of #ScooterAid through a fundraiser who recommended the scheme to them

They wanted to put in an application for some reconditioned scooters, helmets and Micro balance bikes. They told us a bit about themselves and the wonderful work that they do.

We leapt at the chance to support such a great cause. Coram were keen to use the scooters in their everyday; to make a direct difference to the children they work with.

Maya Alexander, from Coram, tells their story:

Raising smiles through scooting.

“[After hearing about Scooter Aid] I sent a few emails around to the different departments who deal directly with our beneficiary children to see who would be interested.

As a result, the Adoption and Creative Therapy teams expressed interest and so the scooters were distributed between the teams.”

The scooters will support the Adoption team

Coram Adoption will take the scooters to their regular adoption activity picnics for the adoptive families to meet other familes like them, and more importantly for the children to meet and make friends with other adoptive children.”

Scooters will be used by the children attending therapy

“The Creative Therapy team operates within a purpose built building in our head office. The scooters are being housed in the creative therapy garden and have been used by children attending therapy, our stay and play groups for adoptive families and our adoption activity days- which help match children to appropriate families.

We recently held an activity day and the scooters proved to be a big hit!”

With thanks to Maya Alexander, Corporate Partnerships Executive at Coram.
